Judging philosophy

I believe that there is judging because it increases competitivness and allows people to strive for things that they normally wouldnt do. It allows people to open up and show creativity and improve there skills by means of criticsim. If I where to judge a paper for instance I would focus on a few certain things. First off I would look to see if they followed the dircetions and wrote about what they needed to write. Then I would check how the paper flowed and if the grammar of the paper was right. Last but not least I would look for examples of what they are writing about and if they kept the paper interesting. When judging there paper, i believe that i would use a method that i believe is most effective for me and that is constructive criticism. I would write on there paper exactly what i think could be improved and tell them if i believe they drifted off the main point of the story as well as help them out with grammar if it's needed. One thing that i would not criticise is the authors personnel opinion if the directions ask for it or if it is inserted to make the paper flow more originally. I wouldnt criticise something like this because its something that cant be criticised by a judge or shouldnt be. Your opinion is your opinion wheater they see it the same way or not shouldnt be a factor. The only time it should be criticised if it takes away form there paper. But besides that if i were a judge who was judging these portfolios i would look for pasion and creativity as well as a structured writing style which i mentioned earlier being the way the paper flows, grammar, wheather they where descriptive and showed examples, and wheather the writers followed directions or not.
