Project runway/top chef assignment
What most people don’t realize is that reality television shows such as “Project Runway” and “Top Chef” bear a striking resemblance to the life of students (challenge wise of course). Whether you’re a designer, chef, or student there will always be people there judging your work. In the television shows we were assigned to watch all the contestants were given the freedom to improvise, while minding the guidelines. Some took improvisation to the max, for example, when the two chefs did not use the type of sausage that was set within their guidelines, while others decided to play it safe and just follow the guidelines right down to the last t. For example on an episode of project runway where they had to make a red-carpet outfit and one contestant was clearly playing it safe instead of using the freedom he was given. Students follow the same concepts. When given an assignment students are given certain guidelines to follow, whether it’s the amount of pages or words they must write or the fact that they mustn’t plagiarize, everyone is given boundaries. Nevertheless, they, like the contestants, are expected to make it their own and make theirs stand out above all the rest. It’s just a matter of how the students/contestants interpret the task. Whether one is a contestant on a television show, a student at a college, or simply just an employee in a work force everyone is expected to give the task they are assigned their best effort. The ones judging will always be there to criticize or appraise, but without putting an honest effort into it one can never excel in society. That is why society has placed the judges, teachers, etc in the paths of those who live in it. Whoever the judges may be, they are there to make sure that those whom they are judging are putting in their best effort so eventually they will become, if not already, an important asset to society.
