assignment 2 : judgement philosophy

my judging philosophy -

i think judging, in life, is something that we all probably dislike and fear, probably even are intimidated by. however, i believe it`s something that we need to experience to become well-rounded individuals and something we need in the advancement in our lives ( work, school, and home, etc. ) it`s very beneficial because i think it helps us see that we all are human and are not perfect.

in relation to reality t.v. -
however, judging in reality t.v. is somewhat different. people on these shows are competing with other people for a common goal. in life, we have different goals and aspirations. i believe that some people that come onto judging shows such as american idol or project runway already have the thought in their head`s that they`re are the best and everyone else are beneath them and not on their level. in some ways it`s ok to have that confidence but i think having someone judge them is beneficial because it shows them their flaws but also their strong-points and it helps keep them on their feet in the competition and coming with fresh and new ideas.

in judging writing samples/portfolios -
if i were portfolio judge, i would judge the readings based off this simple criteria : did they follow the directions, did they seem to understand the assignment, was it interesting to read from beginning to end and does is follow grammar and mechanic guidelines. i can`t say that i value some qualities or goals over each other because writing isn`t just based off one aspect of writing, it`s just a component of a list of things. if someone only focuses on one quality or goal when writing then the paper, in my opinion could have the high potential of being dull and mundane. when i write, i tend to focus on: getting my point across, following the prompt and keeping the reader interested. it`s gotten me pretty far at this point so i`ve stuck to it. however, this might not work for everyone. they would need to find out what their strong and weak areas are... usually this is found out after someone has JUDGED their work... get it?!
