There are many similarities between reality shows such as Top Chef and Project Runway and English textbook assignments. One similarity is that while in an English class, your writing gets judged or graded and in reality shows the contestants get judged or graded. Another thing that they have in common is that both reality shows and English textbooks grade based on the quality of the work. In both of them the better quality the better chances you have as to being safe for elimination or getting an A on a paper. Top Chef and Project Runway and English textbooks ask for a specific task, whether it be to produce a gown for the Emmy's, make a delicious meal or write a 250 word summary on the how the book can relate to everyday life. Overall there are similarities between Reality shows and English textbooks.
There are a few differences between reality shows and English textbook assignments. The first is the fact if you screw up or do not impress the judges in a reality show, you will be sent home, whereas in an English class if you do not impress your teacher, he/she will be able to tell you how to fix it so so next time you fix your mistake. Another difference is the fact that reality shows have more broad topic such as "design a gown for an award show" in Project Runway, as where in an English class you are given much more specific topics such as having a certain length requirement or only allowing it to be in 3rd person, past tense. There are certainly some difference between reality shows and English textbooks.
