Group 1

My group's question was about how the publish text of "Is Google Making us Stupid," is different physically and technically, than our own papers. We came up with a few ideas, such as that it was longer in length, the font was way smaller than our papers, and we figured it would be about 8 pages long. The longest paper I have written this year is about three. Also, the topic is different than we have written, because the author researched and added quotations from scholars and professors.

Also, in our group we decided that this paper was somewhat ironic because the author talks and researches about how people are too lazy to read lengthy pargraphs, yet he has a lengthy paper, expecting people to read it. We all agreed in our group, that we barely even fininshed reding it, and if we did we skimmed through the packet.

For the prompt, you must think of a song that either relates to your life, or is a memorable song that means a lot to you and explain in detail how it relates to you. Use the lyrics to help show the readers how it is important to you in one or two paragraphs. Share examples or stories to make it more clear to the readers.

Judging Portfolio

Everything in life gets judged off many different criteria, depending on what is being judged. In the context of our English class however, we must stick with a criteria that everybody must meet. In judging our portfolios, I would keep a consistent rubric that everyone must meet, which after completing this course, should be very easy to do. There are many crucial things needed to make a paper quality, including, content, grammar, voice and if the writer followed the directions of the prompt. I would look for content because it is important for the paper to have substance for it to even be judged. Next, i would look for grammar because it is important for a paper to be grammatically correct and professional. Third, I would look for voice because it is important for the paper to flow and be easy to read. Last, it is important for the writer to follow the instructions for the prompt because if they did not answer the question correctly, no matter how well the paper is written, it would not be scored as high as a well written paper that followed the directions.

Reality Perfection

The reality television shows "Top Chef" and "Project Runway" have much in common. The two shows both have a group of contestants that are striving to win different prizes. In order to win these prizes, they must successfully complete challenges to the panel of judges' liking. In the case of "Top Chef," the chefs first had to participate in a "mini challenge", which was to create a dessert for their guest judge, Johnny Juzinn. Once all the chefs were done with their dessert the judges tested each of their pastries and picked a winner, who would be safe from elimination at the end of the show. Next, they went to a comedy show and the audience improvised a recipe that the chefs would soon have to create. They would have three hours to create their meal and prepare it for the panel of judges, however, there are many curve balls thrown at them, such as they do not have any machines for them to use, and also halfway through preparing their meal they had to pack up and relocate to a different kitchen to finish. At the end of the show, the chef that did not perform up to par was sent home, leaving no room for mistakes when the competition is so tough. Similar to "Top Chef", the reality show "Project Runway" is the same concept. The aspiring fashion designers in all three episodes had a task, which was to create an outfit that would be worn on a red carpet, on a pregnant actress, Rebecca Romijn, and third they had to construct two different outfits one being a fun and fashionable surf look and another an avant guarde beach look. The designers had limited time to "make it work" and when their pieces were completed in their time periods they would have a fashion show to present their final pieces to the judges. Once the judges have seen all of the pieces they would pick their favorite and they would be saved from being dismissed from the competition. Both television series show the theme of working hard for the success in the future and can easily be related to other scenarios in life.
