Perfection is Ideal
In both Project Runway and Top Chef judges critic the challenges that each contestant goes though. In the episode of Top Chef that we watched in class, the contestants were given the challenge to come up with a dessert that could impress a guest judge, who was a famous pastry chef. They were given a time limit and limited on the amount of ingredients that they were able to use. The winner of the challenge gets a prize, for instance the winner of the dessert challenge got to be in the Top Chef Cook Book and would be the only member of this seasons cast to be able to take part in the cook book. Some of the chefs took risks that would either make or break their desserts, as others decided to play it safe by cooking simple desserts that are almost impossible to mess up. The guest judge and judges then go around and listen as each constant explains what they made and why they made it. Then the judges taste what the chefs have made. The judges then combine their opinions to see which should be the winner of the challenge. In Project Runway , constants come from all over the country to compete to become the next big fashion designer. Similar to Top Chef , the contestants are given a challenge to make the perfect gown for any award show. The contestants are given 200 dollars to buy the fabric they will need and to buy any other thing that they think they could possibly need. They then are given 24 hours to make the gown, fit it to a model and then present to on the runway in front of a panel of judges. Some contestants take risks as where others play it safe and make a simple black or red gown. Once the dresses are on the models and the fashion show starts both the contestants’ and the judges’ mouths drop in shock of the either hideous gowns or outrageously gorgeous gowns. The judges decide on a winner , who will be immune from the next challenge. Both shows are similar to our English 101 class because we are given a challenge each time we are asked to write a paper. At the end of the semester all of our challenges (papers) will be judges in front of a panel of judges (professors) and they go through all our work that we have complete and come up with a score for each paper then give us an overall grade, determining if we pass our class. The similarity between the Brovo shows and our class is clear. You must do your best so you can win or get an A.
