Judging Philosophy
In my opinion I think judging is very important to anyone’s life. I think it should be incorporated into many more things. Before this assignment I thought judging was something that was only done on reality television and for cheerleading and other events like that. Now I realize it can be done in everyday life, and to every person in ones daily routine. Judging puts pressure on many people to do their best work, it creates a sense of stress which in turn then motivates one to do their absolute hardest. If I were a portfolio judge I would incorporate a wide variety of criteria. For starters there would be guidelines for the assignment its self. Next I would look at if they followed those given guidelines. I would have to put any bias thoughts I have aside. Next I would look for uniqueness, did that individual go beyond his or her normal work. Grammar and Spelling would be important as well, although this is an English class I would allow for some free errors that did not count against the final grade. I would look for quotes from the material the work is from. I would look to see if that person’s work makes sense and flows well. Another very important quality I would look for is that the paper remains on the same one or two points, and that someone does not go off on random tangents. In most cases I think harsh criticism in a judge is a good quality, although in some obvious cases we know that judging can be negative.
