The English 101 final portfolio assignment is very significant to new and incoming students to college universities all over the world. It creates a new understanding, language, and writing skills that could be used in future careers and also everyday lives. If I were a judge of the portfolio assignment I would look for quality papers that follow the criteria and all the requirements given. Somes requirements that I think is essential to helping the students growth in college writing include effort, focus on the topic, and strength such as grammatical and mechanical items. I feel no matter how bad or good the paper is, any judge can see the amount of effort that a student has put into a paper. If a student has signifcant amount of research and facts from outside sources, judges can conclude that the student at least went to other measures for information. Another essential requirement would be to stay focused on the topic. I feel as a judge staying on topic is most important because it kind of substitutes as an timeline for the paper and makes it actually flow. Having an idea or some sort of direction for the paper shows the student can stay on the subject without touching other topics. This is an essential writing skill that will be gained from the portfolios and help students grow in their college writing careers. Lastly I think that students will be required to have strength and grammer and mechanics. This is college level writng and most students have learned all grammer and mechanics to write a well written paper. Little things such as spelling words wrong and little mishaps are simply careless mistakes, which come from students not proof reading or taking the measures to go over their work. No one in my opinion will have the perfect portfolio because we all have flaws, but i think as long as the student demonstrates and shows the ability to write a well written college paper, that they will be fine throughout their entire college career. No matter the struggles stay optimistic and everything will work out for the best.
